Tibet: Lhasa
Lhasa is a divergence of cultures. The Chinese have reconstructed the east part of town and it reflects their cultural influence. The west part of Lhasa continues to embrace traditional Tibetan architecture and culture. The resounding expression of faith and devotion to the Buddhist philosophy is encompassed as everyday expression. Pilgrims circumambulate the Barkor kora, around the Jokang, the most religious site for Tibetan Buddhists. Thumbing mala beads and turning prayer wheels, some pilgrims plunge themselves to the ground and perform full body prostrations in complete devotion to their faith. The sentiment is abundant and the Buddhist faith permeates the crisp air of Lhasa.
