Philipines: Surgical Eye Expeditions
Surgical Eye Expeditions (SEE) International is a non-profit humanitarian organization that provides medical, surgical, and educational services by volunteer ophthalmic surgeons with the primary objective of restoring sight to disadvantaged blind individuals worldwide. I was privileged to travel with SEE as a photojournalist to document their surgical mission in the Philippine island of Bay-bay. Eighty successful cataract surgeries were performed on patients ranging in age from nine to seventy-two.
Thanks to the two devoted surgeons, Dr. Drabkin and Dr. Sarah Gomberg, and the dedicated medical support staff from Pilipino American Society of Sacramento who all volunteered their time and energy, and SEE International, these eighty patients were given the gift of sight.
